Women, War and Peace Premiering on PBS TONIGHT

PBS's exciting new five-part series Women, War & Peace will be premiering TONIGHT on your local PBS station at 10 p.m. (EST).

Vital Voices has partnered with this widely-praised initiative in order to challenge conventional wisdoms about war and peace. Spotlighting the stories of women in conflict zones from Bosnia to Afghanistan and Colombia to Liberia, these hour-long documentaries place women at the center of a timely and urgent dialogue about conflict and security, and reframe our understanding of modern warfare.

Tonight's episode I Came to Testify tells the story of 16 Muslim women who survived systematic rape and torture during the Bosnian War in the 1990s, and ultimately testified in international court, which ultimately led to rape being included in the definition of a crime against humanity.

Mary McNamara, the Los Angeles Times Television Critic, summed up her response to the series by saying, "As the stories unfold, we peer into the depths of depravity only to rise, on the shoulders of these women, to the promise of survival that transcends resiliency and becomes change."
